The area between the lower eyelid and upper cheek is referred to as the 'Tear Trough'. As we age these change in appearance becoming longer, deeper and more shadowed, which can give a tired and less youthful appearance.
For those that want to avoid going under the knife, this tear-trough treatment is the perfect solution. It is a subtle treatment but one that makes all the difference. Dermal filler is injected along the line of the hollow of the tear troughs for a soft and natural correction brings it back in line with the skin level. The area is then gently massaged to ensure even distribution of the product.

Tear Trough Treatment FAQs
How Does It Work?
In the lower eyelid a weakening of the orbital septum, and in the cheek area a loss of soft tissue volume, leads to accentuated appearance of the lower bony orbital margin, which lies between the lower eyelid and the cheek. This also results in the appearance of lower eyelid fat pockets ('eye bags') and together these can lead to a dark shadow or hollow beneath the eyes (a 'tear trough defect') causing a tired appearance.
Using a Hyaluronic Acid filler, a sterile gels consisting of cross-linked, hyaluronic acid (HA) with gives skin volume, the doctor or nurse can inject along the groove to plump the tissue, replacing lost volume and fixing the depression.
What Can I Expect In Treatment?
A numbing cream will be applied to the tear-trough area to make the treatment more comfortable then the dermal filler is injected in small amounts and in precise locations into your skin so that there is total control. The doctor or nurse then massages the product to smooth the product across the area.
You may feel some mild pressure in the area during the procedure.
What Results Can I Expect To See?
Treatment will result in a raised hollow/valley beneath the eye to be back in level with the rest of the area. The result is a smoothed the eye area with reduced dark shadows created by tear-trough hollows.
How Many Treatments Would I Need?
Results can be achieved from a single treatment and can last between 6 and 12 months.
Various factors contribute to this formation and the doctor/nurse may suggest combination of treatments that include strengthening the upper cheek to support the area as well as treating the tear-trough itself for the best cosmetic result.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Minor bruising is common with this treatment with the skin being particularly thin under the eyes but this normally disappears over 14 days.
